Owir An Trek

Travel from Islamabad to the breathtaking Chitral Valley via the Swat Motorway. After a quick pause at the Swat Motorway Rest Area, continue driving along the N-45 highway, taking in the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. You will pass through the magnificent Lowari Tunnel on your way to Chitral. Finally, if arrive in Chitral Valley, you may immerse yourself in its rich cultural legacy and breathtaking scenery. The estimated travel time from Islamabad to Chitral is around 9 to 10 hours. Explore Chitral's attractions, including the Shahi Mosque, Shahi Qila, the Polo Ground, Governor Cottage, and the Chitral Museum.

Traveling from Chitral to Bumburet Valley takes roughly 3 hours over the scenic Chitral-Mastuj Road. This picturesque path offers amazing vistas and takes you through gorgeous countryside. When you arrive at Bumburet, you will be able to visit the enchanting Kalash Valley, which is home to the distinctive Kalash people. Don't pass up the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich culture and traditions of this intriguing town.

After leaving Bumburet, take a picturesque path to Shahguch Susoom, where you may relax and enjoy the tranquil natural surroundings. The drive will take you via winding roads and rich flora, with stunning views of the valley and its beautiful villages. Prepare for a delightful trip that will allow you to enjoy the beauty of the area.

In 15 minutes, the trail hits a hill and swings east, ascending the valley's south side towards the pass. After about 30 minutes, contour to the snowpack at the confluence of two tiny streams. The climb to Owir An starts on the north (left) side of the high bluffs above. In 30 minutes, climb from the snowfield to the gully with a small stream to the left of the rocky outcrop. The pass itself is a challenging walk that takes one to eleven hours from here. There is a little black outcrop to the left of Owir An (4337m). During significant snowfall or early in the season, a snowfield forms on both sides of the pass. The Buni Zom massif dominates the vista from the pass, with the Shandur range stretching far into the distance. Shungush's fields can be seen below.

Descend the tiny creek, crossing another small side stream to your left. The trail descends a ridge much above the actual left bank of the main stream. One hour from the pass, you'll arrive in a flat area with grass and a few campsites where two streams meet. The alternate track to the Barum Glacier starts here (see Alternate Finish).

Jughor

Jughor hamlet is located near the mouth of the Jughor Gol, south and across the river from Chitral town. Plan to go to Jughor the day before you begin organising any trips. There are four challenging passes near the valley's head: two south to Shishi Gol and two east, one to Koghozi Gol and the other to Roghili Gol.

Walk up the valley from Jughor to a cabin at Chhato Shal (3048m), where the trail intersects with the true left bank. Continue for another 750 metres until a trail intersection (3161 metres). One road ascends the Kapashung Gol to the passes leading to Shishi Gol, while the other ascends the Bungolbahan Gol to the remaining two.

The Kapashung Gol path divides Father Valley. The trail to the southeast passes through Domukh An (4380m) and leads to Kalas in Shishi Gol. The road to the south follows the true right bank of the Kapashung Gol for three km, via the highest branch, to Kapashung Gree (4318m), which also flows into Shishi Gol.

The east route up Bungolbahan Gol takes the true left (south) bank and offers two options. To begin, travel 3 kilometres down the valley from the 3161m trail intersection and bridge the river. A difficult 500m ascent north leads to Koghozi An (4480m), followed by a steep drop into the Koghozi Valley and Koghozi hamlet on the Chitral-Gilgit route. This is a tough Class 3 cross-country route.

Second, continue half a kilometre northeast along the true left bank of the Bungolbahan Gol to Roghili Gree (4638m). Then it's an 850-meter scree descent into the upper Roghili Gol basin. The basin is labelled Angarbah on the Chitral (I-42 F) sheet, but the people are unfamiliar with the term. Follow the south bank of a creek for 8 kilometres northeast to the lake Lut Chhat (3764 metres). You can descend Roghili Gol from a trail junction 500m above the lake by crossing the stream that feeds the lake and contouring along its north side (see the Roghili Gol climb). You could also cross Roghili An.

A Roghili

From Lut Chhat in the upper Roghili Gol, a route leads to Madaglasht in Shishi Gol via the Roghili An (4496m). Continue along Lut Chhat's north and west shores. Continue 500 metres beyond the lake and cross the stream on its south side. Two pathways separate here, one to the Roghili An and the other to the more difficult Roghili Gree (see Jughor above). The steep route to Roghili An (4496m) follows a southeast turn and ascends a stony ridge to Madaglasht in Shishi Gol.

Another base camp (4700m) used by the 1950 Norwegian expedition, the first to summit Tirich Mir, is located two days beyond Shukushal, up the Barum Glacier.

Descend the valley to return to the Shahbronz roadhead.

From Mujhen, continue down the route to Parpish, a little settlement tucked beside the Chitral River. The trek takes around 3 hours and passes through lush flora and stunning vistas. Trek at a leisurely pace, pausing to appreciate the natural beauty and possibly catching a sight of local species. When you arrive at Parpish, tour the area, meet the friendly residents, and enjoy the peaceful rural surroundings.

You may go from Parpish to Chitral via the Chitral River. The travel takes between 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The trail provides spectacular views of the river and neighboring mountains. Along the trip, you may encounter tiny villages and communities. Chitral is a lively town with several attractions, including the Shahi Mosque, Shahi Qila, and the polo field. Make sure to visit the colorful market and engage with the friendly residents.

The travel from Chitral to Islamabad usually takes 9 to 10 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The journey is picturesque, traversing through high terrain and providing stunning vistas along the way. Make sure to stop in any of the attractive villages and towns along the way, such as Dir and Swat, to enjoy the region's natural splendor. Once in Islamabad, you may visit the city's various attractions, such as the Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh, and Lok Virsa Museum.

We also have a contingency day in your travel arrangements in the event of unanticipated delays. This entails setting aside an additional day for your vacation so that you may change your itinerary if necessary. This might be due to inclement weather, road closures, or unforeseen occurrences during your route. This extra day helps address such circumstances without significantly disrupting your travel plans, resulting in a smoother and more pleasurable vacation overall.
